As it turned out, the drive to Clifden provided yet another view of the countryside and time for a leisurely lunch and exploring in Kinvara, which was really quite delightful - all the more so because the sun had made an appearance by then.
Once I'd settled in at The Quay House in Clifden there was just enough time to get my bearings and check out the town of 1,400 (sorry Pete - no rugby shorts here either! - but I did find some Waterford crystal) before dinner at Destry's, a local restaurant.
