Our final day of cycling was certainly one to remember.
The route was fairly straightforward. We took a ferry from Tobermory across the Sound of Mull to Kilchoan, and cycled from there to Salen and along the shore of Loch Sunart to Strontian.
What I remember most vividly is...RAIN. All two inches of it. And extremely high winds - all but about 10 minutes of it headwind! And rain-slicked cattle grids! A great day for cycling it was not - and to add insult to injury, the route was through what was quite possibly the most picturesque area of the whole trip - I couldn't tell! But my Goretex jacket, pants, oversocks and I had a very good workout. (So did the shower cap "borrowed" from the last hotel which fit nicely over my helmet! High fashion it wasn't, but it worked like a charm! Thanks, Saunie!!).
The Ardnamurchan National Historic History and Visitors Centre provided a welcome refuge from which to watch and listen to the fury of the wind-driven rain while enjoying a welcome hot lunch. Emerging from that cozy shelter into heavy rain to mount my drenched bike was the hardest thing I've had to do in a long, long time! Of such things are life-long memories made!
Very few photos were taken this day!
